NSMBe

TODO: Add screenshots. Detail supported NSMB ROMs. Continue Tabs section?ROMs?

NSMBe is a multipurpose modding tool for New Super Mario Bros., capable of editing levels, graphics, tilesets, and backgrounds.

The editor is currently maintained by Mamma Mia Team. You can download the latest release from GitHub.

Tabs

When a New Super Mario Bros. ROM is opened by NSMBe, the editor will show several tabs: the Level Listing tab, the Tilesets tab, the Backgrounds tab, the Tools/Options tab, and the About NSMBe tab. NSMBe can also open other Nintendo DS ROMs outside of New Super Mario Bros. — when one such ROM is opened, NSMBe will only show the latter three tabs.

Level Listing

This tab lists all areas in the game. Areas are grouped by levels; levels are grouped by world (bar situations where the levels do not belong to a specific world, such as with Toad houses, unused levels, and Mario vs. Luigi courses). Pressing the plus sign icon next to world or level name opens a dropdown revealing the levels or areas they contain. Levels without a plus sign icon only contain one area. To edit an area, you may either double-click it or highlight it and click the Edit Level button.

In addition to the Edit Level button, there are several other buttons at the bottom of the tab: the Import Level button allows you to replace the selected area with a NSMBe exported level; the Export Level button allows you to export an area as a NSMBe exported level file (.NML); the Open Exported Level button allows you to open and edit a NSMBe exported level without replacing an area; the Import Clipboard button replaces the selected area with your clipboard data; the Export Clipboard button allows you to export the selected area to your clipboard instead of as an actual file; the Open Clipboard button allows you to open and edit an area exported to your clipboard; the Hex Edit button allows you to directly hex edit the level blocks of the selected area.
